This Independent Stove Co Renown Underfeed Stoves elephant paperweight is a small cast iron advertising piece from the Owosso, Michigan stove manufacturer, finished in a worn silvery nickel-colored surface.

At just 3 inches long, this heavy little elephant has the kind of industrial advertising history that works especially well in a Michigan collection, antique advertising display, office, or shelf of early American manufacturing pieces.

Collector's Notes

The Independent Stove Company began in Detroit in 1906 and moved its manufacturing operation to Owosso, Michigan in 1908. Renown became one of the company's long-used trade names.

Company advertising is a good fit for collectors of Michigan manufacturing history, stove advertising, early American industry, or unusual figural paperweights.

Elephant, alligator, and other animal paperweights are known from the company's history. Historical records confirm the forms existed, although a definite production date for the elephant has not been established.

This one carries the company, location, and Renown advertising directly on the figure, giving a collector several identifying details in one small piece.
